A graduate of the École Supérieure d’Art et de Design (ESAD) in Reims, Gladys Hulot (hYrtis) is both an illustrator and a musician. Her artistic practice is primarily centered on drawing, with a particular focus on illustration.
Her work is driven by the exploration of atmospheres, emotional textures, and organic forms, where intimacy meets the imaginary. Through her creations, hYrtis explores themes of memory, identity, and emotion, blending contemporary influences, dreamlike aesthetics, and references drawn from alternative visual culture. Her intuitive approach to drawing and composition results in works that are both delicate and powerful, where every detail contributes to the creation of a distinctive visual language.
She has contributed to the creation of several books published by Arcana Sacra (Piktos Group), as well as artworks released through Sony Music.
In 2015, her animated music video for David Bowie's Life on Mars? was featured on the artist's official website, bringing widespread international attention to hYrtis' work.
Alongside her visual arts practice, hYrtis is also a composer and performer. She plays both the theremin and the sonic blade, whose haunting timbres create singular and immersive musical experiences. Through concerts and lectures, she actively introduces audiences to these unique instruments, while regularly sharing videos of her practice sessions on social media to maintain a warm and genuine connection with her community.
Her diverse repertoire includes jazz standards, themes from the classical, Baroque, and occasionally medieval repertoires, as well as film music. Her soothing original compositions reveal a contemplative, cinematic universe in which melody takes center stage.
In addition to her live performances, she collaborates on album recordings with other artists and composes music for audiovisual productions, including films, documentaries, and sound design. She notably contributed to the original soundtrack of the feature film Saint-Ex, released in 2024.
